SEO Meta Patterns

Speaking to the AI of today and tomorrow in SEO meta patterns.

The future has arrived and continues to pour in at breakneck speed. We are approaching a tipping point in the evolution of technology. Artificial intelligence, or AI, is already here and we are already speaking to it. SEO meta patterns developed in our websites can speak to intelligent systems to help them connect us with our customers. So, it is important that we learn to develop these patterns in our content.

What date will future generations mark as the birth of AI?

Will it be the founding of Google? The creation of the World Wide Web? The starting of the internet? Maybe it will be the beginning of Unix time, midnight of January 1st, 1970. We can all agree that the birth occurred a while ago and AI is on the verge of waking up.

Have search engines always used artificial intelligence?

In the early days of internet search engines, search pages asked us to provide a single word or a small group of words in a search query. They discouraged us from using unnecessary, additional wording. We were even expected to know about boolean operators. So, we would include AND, OR and NOT, to make our searches more precise. Hence, the systems were not intelligent because we were expected to be mathematically precise in posing questions to these early machines.

Now, computers are speaking our language and inventing their own languages.

Today’s search engines have evolved to the point where we are now expected to ask questions in our own natural human language. Not only is software optimized and designed to understand our intent, it is also learning from our use of language. Artificially intelligence systems, using big data, are quickly learning how to communicate with humans in our own quirky and ancient version of language. A recent development is that AI systems have been observed inventing their own new languages to communicate with each other.

How are artificially intelligent systems reading meta patterns in our language?

The evolution of AI races on in the secret labs of the largest companies ever to exist on earth. It is also evolving in the real world and in the massive server farms of the live search engines we use every day to find information about everything. AI is listening when we want to know where the nearest coffee shop or gas station is while we speed down the highway. When a patient is looking for a doctor or a hospital, the search engine is the friend she turns to for help. Search engines are learning to read between the lines. So, they are learning about our intent by studying who we are. Hence, they are learning about companies and consumers and how we interact.

What do artificial intelligence and SEO meta patterns have to do with my business?

In designing a strategy for your online marketing plan, SEO is an important consideration. SEO stands for search engine optimization. It means helping the search engines to help our businesses reach new customers. In the old days, it often meant trying to trick search engines. Those days have passed. Therefore, if we try to game the system, we are only hurting our efforts. So, the best way to handle SEO is to provide clear value to our customers in our online presentations. Within the writing we do on the pages and posts of our websites and blogs, we should start to focus on underlaying patterns and SEO meta patterns that speak to these fast evolving AI entities.

What is a meta pattern?

A meta pattern is a pattern that is seen throughout our universe in seemingly unrelated places. One specific example that was used in a recent addiction marketing campaign was to write a series of blog posts in which the focus keywords of each post were based on underlaying principles of the twelve steps. This was never announced as an intent in the series, it was simply done quietly in the background. Readers familiar with these principles may or may not spot this pattern. The search engine AI systems of today and of tomorrow will not miss it at all. Hence, they will be crystal clear in the AI mind, recognized and acted upon.

We must speak to the future.

When we write and architecturally design our websites and articles, we must be aware that our work will exist online to be viewed by AI systems now and for years to come. There is no way to know what tomorrow’s search engine web crawling robots will think of our content. Will our intent be clear? Are we providing value to the customer? Are we bringing together concepts of interest and of use to our target audience?

What about the human attention span?

It is true that in our distracted world, attention span has decreased. It is less likely today that most of our target audience will read a 900+ word article. In reading, we glance through headlines and headers. Even videos lose our interest after a few seconds. We sample from streams branching off from rivers flowing in from oceans of content. So, why should we bother to write long articles anymore?

We write to humans for the benefit of machines.

We make the best possible effort in designing the structure of our writing. Making use of SEO meta patterns, we do our best to write well with the intent of our customers reading our best work. The fact is that it is the AI of search engines that will do the most thorough reading of our work. This does not mean that we write in vain. In today’s world of information overload, AI is making our lives easier. It can do this by digesting mountains of data and presenting it in the form of precise search results and summaries.

Learning to speak in SEO meta patterns.

To make our intent known, it is important to learn to write in ways that help search engines to help our businesses and our customers. We find this new style of writing at the intersection of literature and technology. We combine the best of two worlds, writing essays for people and code for machines. Understanding how humans and machines think has become an essential part of marketing. Therefore, we must know how to present our marketing message to both humans and AI.
